“Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
1 Corinthians 15:12-18
The resurrection is the central teaching of Christianity. It is the promise of God to restore the world, undo the Genesis curse and renew our bodies and minds into the perfect image of Jesus Christ. It is the hope that we will live in the presence of our Creator forever without pain or suffering or death or evil, or even the capability to sin or think sinful things. It is God’s total and utter victory over death and the forces of darkness, and it is what makes the gospel the good news.
And this great promise is anchored in Christ. Having been resurrected from the grave, Jesus now sits at the right hand of Power and rules over all things. The bible calls His resurrection the first fruits of the harvest, meaning that Jesus being raised from the dead is God’s promise to us who believe that we, too, will follow suit when He returns for the harvest at the end of the age.
These things fill our hearts with hope, but in a day and age where it is in fashion to challenge the word of God — we as Christians need to be armed with sound reasoning to defend the arguments of the world against our faith. The resurrection is a supernatural miracle of God. It doesn’t happen in our daily lives and it is not part of our normal experience. Yet it did happen, and there is convincing evidence that we must be familiar with in order to witness properly.
Today I want to offer you 7 powerful proofs in that regard, so that when you find yourself in a conversation about this topic you are well armed. It is also important for our own faith to know why we believe what we believe, that it is not blind faith but rather faith based on real, substantial and true evidence.
