Jesus famously said in John 3 while talking with Nicodemus that unless someone is born again they cannot see the kingdom of God. Christianity is unique from every other religion or spiritual path because of this foundational concept. Where other religions seek to “do” in order to “be” — Christianity tells you the opposite: you must “be” in order to “do.”
In other words, you must be made new in order to truly have a new life and do good.
But Jesus also says that this process is much like the wind, we do not know where it comes from nor where it goes. We cannot invoke being born again or say a special prayer or even get baptized in order to cause it to happen. It is the will of God and on His own timing, but we can genuinely ask God to give us a new heart and pray — and scripture tells us He is generous with all who approach Him.
