Paul writes in Romans 16:25-27 about the mystery of the ages in the following way:
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith — to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.”
And again in Ephesians 3:3-6:
“For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles—assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.”
The bible is the story of the mysterious, omnipotent Creator revealing Himself to Creation. The Creator, who is self-existent, nowhere to be seen yet present everywhere, brings something from nothing and life from death and who knows all things — this Creator made Himself known in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, lived a perfect life as a representative for mankind, died a horrible death as payment for their sins and resurrected in glory, promising to return and reward the faithful as well judge all the wicked.
It is the ultimate story, and it is true. Yet despite having the fullness of the revelation of God through Christ, the reality is that there are many mysteries of the faith. A mystery here doesn’t mean something that is completely hidden necessarily, but rather something that doesn’t have a human explanation or remains beyond our full understanding.
